I’ve got some great new for you guys. I am going to be running a contest every Monday that ends on Friday and you are the ones to benefit.
This contest is pretty simple. Tell me the biggest mistake you have made while smoking, setting up or cleaning a hookah. It does not have to be grand and elaborate. Just tell me your story and you will be entered into the drawing for a 100g can of Social Smoke Tobacco.
That’s about all there is to it.
I’d say my worst (not including dropped coals) was when I set up my Mya Colossus and completely forget t add the water. It was not until a few minutes into the session that I realized the smoked was warmer than I expected and there was no rumble. Whoops! What’s a hookah without water?
My first time smooking hookah I made to beginners mistakes. First I did not have a tight enough grip on my tongs when lighting up some three kings quicklights and I dropped the hot coal right on my foot, left a nice circular burn for a few weeks. The next mistake I made was packing the shisha too tight, I could not get any smoke or airflow, made a huge mess of my living room and leanred from my mistakes.
Ooof. I’ve burnt myself before but nothing that bad.

I forgot the water in my hookah once, had to really scramble to get things set up right again. Very annoying. Then there was the time I forgot to poke holes in the foil–bet it would have been funny to see my eyes bulge on that first pull on the hose. I dropped my Bambino vase once, but it didn’t break. Whew! I guess I have it pretty good, my worst disaster (minus the scattered coal burns on my floors) was dropping my generic funnel bowl but only breaking a piece off the inside of it where it attaches to the hookah. So it still functions, but now it always sits crooked!
One big mistake was at a party, we had like 3 or 4 people smoking from my ex’s hookah and several other people sitting around on the floor, in front of the table that the hookah was sitting on. They were drinking and socializing then one of the folks on the floor by the hookah suddenly moved and knocked over the hookah. Everyone jumped, a few people grabbed for the hookah, but then my ex panicked the coal was on the carpet and was burning it. He freaked out and went to grab something to pick it up with and sweep up the ashes. Lost part of his deposit on that apartment due to a small burn in the carpet. Lesson: keep hookah at at least an arms length from anyone who has even a bit of a buzz!
A few weeks ago I accidentally got water on my coals . I didn’t think anything of it so the next day I went to light one and it completely exploded into pieces. Now I have 5 Burns holes scattered across the carpet and a pissed off girlfriend.
